Transpartisan Programs
In today's post-partisan world, left- right, liberal-conservative, Republican- Democrat lack useful significance in describing a complete picture of contemporary politics. These 19th century shop-warren terms fail to include a new large post-partisan demographic which is emerging and has yet to find a polity truly expressive of its interests. GIS characterizes this new demographic as beyond left and right, socially expansive, ecologically sensitive, personally experimental, collectively experiential and discriminatingly tolerant with a communitarian edge. In seeking ways for this demographic to find its polity and thereby contribute to solving contemporary problems, GIS works to embrace and transcend current politics by pursuing transpartisan initiatives that have the following characteristics:
- Issues where the partisan divide which are created by concentrated political
and social power, limiting cultural forms and narrow individual mindsets, impedes
progress and blocks meaningful responses for addressing real problems.
- Opportunities to diminish that divide by empowering individuals and communities
to seek their own answers and ways of being in the world as well as network
together interested communities and individuals for common ends.
- Respect for the strengths of partisan belief systems while at the same time transcending narrow interests and embracing deeper common values that offer joint solutions for apparently intractable problems.
Our guiding principles are the maximization of individual options, the
minimization of ecological degradation (in social and non-human ecologies)
and the enhancement of intelligence, wisdom and creativity to maximize
human health and happiness.
